Fun Run

Join the Ohio River Road Runners Club for their annual Track Run taking place at Stivers on Wednesday, June 15, 2011.

A fun little track meet to test your foot speed at the start of the summer.  Participants can run the 1-mile (1600 meter) individual race , the 2-mile (3200 meter) individual race, and/or the 4-person team relay race (4x800 meter).  Relay teams are selected at random, so there is no need to form a team before the race.   You may end up on a team with the 3 fastest runners...or the 3 slowest....its the luck of the draw, and that's what makes it so much fun!
WHEN: Wednesday, June 15.  The race starts at 7:00pm.
PARKING: Stivers School for the Arts High School, 1313 East 5th Street, Dayton, OH 45402-2222
REGISTRATION: Race Day Registration Only. We recommend you arrive at least one hour before the race to park, register and warm-up prior to the race start.
FEES:
Adults$3 for ORRRC Members

Here's some news of more artistic talent coming from St. Anne's Hill!

Guitar Player Magazine Superstar Finalists
August 24th, 2009

Guitar Player Magazine has announced its top ten finalists in the Guitar Player Superstar Competition for 2009.

Guitarists from all over applied, and the editors of the magazine whittled them down to these ten finalists:

So what does that mean for Steve? Well, read on!

These players will perform in front of a packed audience and a panel of world-famous guitarists including Elliot Easton (The Cars), Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson/Jeff Beck), Steve Lukather (Toto) and Greg Hampton, (producer of Alice Cooper, Ronnie Wood, Lita Ford). The host of this year’s event is Brendon Small, co-creator of Metalocalypse.

The celebrity judges will evaluate each original performance, and rate each contestant on technique, creativity, charisma and overall vibe. At the end of the night, the 2009 Guitar Player Guitar Superstar will be crowned, along with two runner-ups.

The story was also featured in the Dayton Daily News.

Good luck, Steve!

May Days

-

This Saturday, April 25 is the St. Anne's Hill monthly social event. This month's event is the Soup 'n Salad dinner. Stop by and visit our hosts on McLain Street and bring your appetite!

Anyway, there are three great Dayton events coming up for the weekend of May 1-3. Check it out!

May 1 - Light up, Dayton! No, it's not a rally for smokers. It's a photo contest sponsored by the Dayton Daily News and the Downtown Dayton Partnership. All downtown buildings are asked to keep their lights on for the evening of May 1 for a photo contest. You can help show Dayton in the best possible light. Check out the view from St. Anne's Hill!

May 2 - Town Hall Meeting entitled "Roads, Rivers, Parks, and Planes." This event is the 2nd in a series sponsored by the City of Dayton Department of Planning. On May 2, City Hall staffers will lead a discussion about infrastructure and capital investments in our great city. It starts at 9 am at the Convention Center, just down the street from St. Anne's Hill. Parking and admission are free!

May 3 - Ultimate Open House - The Dayton Area Board of Realtors is sponsoring a regional open house day for everyone selling a home in the Dayton area. If you're in the market, stop by and see some great houses for sale in St. Anne's Hill!

Fasching (Masquerade Ball) 2009

Dayton Liederkranz-Turner will celebrate Fasching with a Masquerade Ball on Saturday, February 21, 2009 from 7:30 - 11:30pm. Alte Kamaraden will provide our music entertainment for the evening. The majority of those attending come in costumes of all kinds with a parade of costumes and prizes.

** Wear a costume and get $1 off at the door! Costume Parade for the Prince & Princess at 8:15 Prizes awarded for Most Original, Best Single, Best Couple, and Best Group. **Food & beverages will be available for purchase. The Prinz and Prinzessin preside over the ceremonies and welcome everyone to fun.

Fasching, Fasnacht, and Karneval all describe a season of celebration in Germany and in Catholic countries. This pre-Lenten period is celebrated with parades, masks, costumes, food, drink and all kinds of tomfoolery. It is a time of the "fool" who, from behind his/her mask, can say and do outrageous things with impunity.

SAH Elections

-
Reprinted from the e-mail tree, for all to see:

Now's your chance to get involved. A buzz word being used by both major parties in the national election this year is "Change". If you don't like the way things are, or aren't, being done consider stepping up and getting involved. You have a voice, ideas, energy and personality. Use them! Positions up for grabs this year are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer (all one year terms) and 1 board seat (a two year term).

Contact John See or Jim DeWeese if you are interested in being included on the slate, or come to the October 7 general membership meeting to be nominated from the floor. All nominees must be present at the October meeting to accept their nomination. Nominations will close at the end of that meeting. The election will be held at the November 4 general membership meeting, same day as the national election. There will be a pot luck supper before the meeting. More info to come on that later. You must be a member of St. Anne's Hill Historic Society to run for office, and to vote. If you are not sure of your status contact membership chair Bobbie Puterbaugh.

All general membership meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month, at 7:00 p.m., at the Leiderkranz Turner building at High & 5th.

As a reminder, St. Anne's Hill [Historic Society] is a 501c3 non-profit corporation. As such we, as an organization, cannot endorse any candidate or issue. That is not to say we don't personally all have our opinions, just that St. Anne's [Historic Society] will take no official position.

It's on the website, so it must be official! St. Anne's Hill will be hosting the first "Garden & Art Tour" on Saturday, June 21. We will have more information in the coming weeks, but for now let's say that this will be a huge expansion over previous Garden Tours in SAH.

As we gear up for the big day, we also had this announcement today:

The St. Anne's Hill Garden and Art Tour is having a poster contest! All children, grades K-5 in public, private, parochial or home school, who live or attend school in the City of Dayton are eligible. "What does home and garden mean to you?"

First prize: $100 savings bond
Second prize: $50 savings bond

All entries will be on display during the Garden and Art Tour on Saturday, June 21st from 10 am - 4 pm. All entrants will receive a ribbon!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks!

For a sneak preview of what to expect, take a look at these pictures from the 2006 Garden Tour. It should be a lot of fun, and there are plenty of opportunities for everyone to volunteer. So put on your gloves and plant those tulips, because spring is here!

P.S. If you are first time visitor to the blog, please make sure to get on our email list by contacting news@stanneshill.org and get all the latest information. For only $6 per year, you can become a member of the St. Anne's Hill Historic Society and get our newsletter mailed to you every month as well.
